The
tempting and diverse scenery and the mild, constant Mediterranean climate
entice holidaymakers ever more to the town of Elounda
year after year.
The
breathtaking coastal vicinities and pleasant beaches and bays give visitors a
chance to relax and benefit from an unforgettable vacation.
Being
situated on the most southern of all the Greek Islands,
Elounda enjoys plenty of sunshine and the longest of all the summer seasons in
the region, lasting from April to October. With its pleasant Mediterranean
climate, the particular area of the isle features hot dried out summers and
enjoyable placid winters; therefore remaining a favourable holiday location all
year round.
Elounda
enjoys an outstanding climate with very hot summers; the popular holiday months
from June to September can see temperatures reaching 40°C. Sheltered in Mirabello Bay,
the water here is great for swimming and is pleasingly warm right through to
October.
All
year round, the weather is high-quality making Elounda an ideal holiday
destination at any time of the year. From the beginning of the summer in
April, the temperatures are already hovering around 18°C giving around eight
hours of sunshine per day. Temperatures continue to rise throughout the summer
with them peaking at around 27°C in August. By then, there are approximately
thirteen hours of sunshine in a day. The powerful easterly winds that breeze
through from the north Greece
blow heavily throughout the summer months particularly in august grow very
strong during the summer, especially during the month of August, but helping to
lower both temperature and humidity and keeping them at a more convenient
level.
Spring
is especially pretty with bursts of wild flowers along the coast; April sees
temperatures of 18°C. Springtime is the ideal time to beat the crowds, and
gives perfect weather for sightseeing and outdoor activities such as walking
and cycling. During May the temperature rises to 20°C, reaching 22°C to 24°C by
June. While autumn is still tranquil as the resorts wind down. From
September to October there are nine to eleven hours of sunlight per day while
climates still stay above 20°C.
The
winter in Elounda is reasonably mild, but there can be periods of
reasonably cold weather and rain. The winter rainfall starts in December;
however the wettest months are January and February. There is a minimum of four
hours of sunshine a day in this period with temperatures dropping to roughly
12°C.
There
are substantial variations throughout this region of Crete; when at times the town can be very dry and
hot, with an almost desert-like terrain, yet at other times; normally during
winter Elounda sees slightly lower temperatures and a greener landscape.
